Dr. Erdal Aydin
Dr. Erdal Aydın is an Associate Professor and the Chair of Process Control and Automation in the Department of Chemical and Metallurgical Engineering at Aalto University’s School of Chemical Engineering. He earned his BSc from Middle East Technical University, MSc from Koç University, and PhD from the Max Planck Institute for Dynamics of Complex Technical Systems, and later completed postdoctoral research at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. His research focuses on process and optimal control, design and optimization of energy systems, dynamic optimization, and artificial intelligence applications, with a general interest in Process Systems Engineering topics including optimization, AI/ML, optimal renewable energy integration, and process control and systems engineering. He combines mathematical modeling with machine learning to develop and maintain cost-effective, sustainable, and resilient process systems. He has received approximately 1M € in research and implementation funding from external institutions and companies related to AI/ML, optimization, and renewable energy systems design and management under uncertainty, as well as modeling and simulation. He has authored over 40 scientific papers in prestigious journals and contributed to more than 20 scientific conferences as a speaker. He is committed to shaping the future of the chemical and energy sector through impactful AI and optimization research and industrial implementation.
